Ai-generated Art Won A Prize. Artists Aren’t Happy.

A man entered a art competition with an AI-generated artwork and won the get-go prize. The man, named Jason Allen, who is the president of Colorado-based tabletop gaming company Incarnate Games, shared the news through a Discord mail.

Allen won in the digital art category with his artwork called ‘Théâtre D’opéra Spatial’. The painting, which looks like a mixture of classical opera and space, wasn’t painted by Allen but a creation of an AI software called Midjourney.

The man didn’t utilise a digital brush to create the artwork. The painting was created past AI using his prompts.

“After a one month hiatus, I have returned with an exciting announcement about my personal projection I’ve made using Midjourney. I have been exploring a special prompt that I will be publishing at a later date,” Allen wrote on Discord as he shared his artwork.

He explained that he created 100s of images using it, and after many weeks of fine tuning and curating gens, he chose the top three and printed them on canvas afterward upscaling with Gigapixel A.I.

While Allen won the big competition, he seems to exist losing it on Twitter, which isn’t happy with the fact that a digitally created painting won beginning prize at an fine art competition.

A Twitter user, identified as artist Genel Jumalon, shared Allen’south post on the micro-blogging platform with the caption: “TL;DR — Someone entered an fine art competition with an AI-generated piece and won the showtime prize.”

While some other Twitter user couldn’t help but compare the situation with a motorbike winning in a equus caballus race. Another person called it the “death of artistry”.
