I take profits for 1/2 of my position when I see 2 X R, and then I take the remainder of the profits when the stock gets to my optimized profit target, i.e. 5 x R. Here’s an example: Let’s say you’re trading 100 shares of ABC. Your risk is $2 per share, i.e. $200 for 100 shares. Your conservative profit target is 2 X R = 2 x $2 = $4.
Here’s a more specific rule for long-term stock investing success: Once your stock has broken out, take most of your profits when they reach 20% to 25%. IBD founder and Chairman William O’Neil

Interesting discussion but i am confused why people think taking only profit out is not a good idea!! I think it is a verg good idea and reduced your risk For example i bought company x at $100 now company x is at $140 my original investment for 1 share was 100 but now reached 140 dollars..so 40 dollar is a profit if i take my 40 dollar out and leave the 100 in, if the stock goes up i continue
To find the percent increase or decrease, take the price difference, divide it by the original purchase price and then multiply the resulting number by 100.
